Another member of the 2016-17 Dudley Hewitt Cup Champion Trenton Golden Hawks squad is heading to different pastures for next season. Defenceman Chays Ruddy was drafted 31st overall in the second round of Tuesday's North American Hockey League (NAHL) draft in Odessa Jackalopes, a hockey club based out of Texas.
The 6'2, 205 lb.Cobourg native spent the past two seasons with the Golden Hawks with the Golden Hawks, filling a steady, physical, stay-at-home role on the blueline, a job that earned him "fan-favourite" status around the rink. He was also one of nine Trenton players to win back-to-back Dudley Hewitt Cups in 2016 and 2017 and an OJHL championship in 2016, while also making two trips to the RBC Cup National Championship. Prior to Trenton, he won an Empire B Jr. C championship with the Port Hope Panthers in 2015 and played his minor hockey with the Quinte Red Devils and Whitby Wildcats Midget programs. Ruddy notched 22 points in 94 total games with the Golden Hawks.
The Golden Hawks organization would like to wish Chays all the best in his future endeavours and good luck with the Odessa Jackalopes.
